La catedral está dedicada al apóstol Santiago. El apóstol Santiago es el santo patrono de España. En el año 844 el rey Ramiro I, rey de Asturias, derrotó a un ejército de musulmanes. La leyenda cuenta que el apóstol Santiago se apareció en el campo de batalla para ayudar a los cristianos a derrotar a los musulmanes. En el año 1846 los reyes Isabel y Fernando peregrinaron a Santiago de Compostela para solicitar el apoyo del apóstol Santiago en su guerra contra el reino musulmán de Granada. Poco después el reino de Granada fue derrotado... Durante la conquista de México, los conquistadores súbditos del Reino de Castilla se encomendaba al apóstol Santiago al combatir. En el año 1519 los conquistadores súbditos del Reino de Castilla bajo las órdenes de Hernán Cortés se enfrentaron contra indígenas en Centla, Tabasco. Y nuevamente, cuenta la leyenda, el apóstol Santiago se apareció en el campo de batalla para ayudar a los cristianos a derrotar a los indígenas. En el año 1531 los conquistadores súbditos del Reino de Castilla bajo las órdenes de Fernando de Tapia se enfrentaron contra indígenas en Querétaro.
